Where have all the tadpoles gone? This was the question that ended our search for a mascot which represented our environmental commitment. Saddened by the imperilled condition of tadpoles in Canada, we adopted the simple frog as a symbol of our ecological conscience, a reminder that when the home of even the smallest of us suffers, we are all very much affected.

Following a 2009 debut, the Norstar frog will appear frequently on our website, serving as your guide to a growing range of environmental options, including sustainable, recyclable, biodegradable and lightweight packaging solutions. As well, during sales visits, the frog will serve as a reminder of our joint responsibility to serve and protect our natural environment.

Norstar is committed to constantly improving sustainable packaging, and developing ways to reduce waste throughout the food processing chain. We work with customers and suppliers to achieve materials which are less dense but equally protective and effective, and we are constantly expanding our range of easy-to-recycle (yet cost-effective) packaging options, such as our use of Polylactic Acid, which is derived from corn, soybeans or sugar beets instead of crude oil.
